Our commitment to accuracy, fairness, and educational focus

Our Mission

Orange United provides nonpartisan education information to help Orange parents stay informed about school board decisions, curriculum changes, and opportunities to engage in their children's education.

501(c)(4) Compliance

Orange United is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. We focus on education and civic engagement, not political campaigns. We do not:

  • Endorse or oppose candidates for public office
  • Coordinate with or support political campaigns
  • Make our primary purpose the support or opposition of candidates
  • Engage in partisan political activity

What We Do

  • Educate: Provide factual information about school board meetings and education policy
  • Document: Track and report voting records on education issues
  • Explain: Translate complex policy into parent-friendly language
  • Facilitate: Help parents understand how to participate in the public process

Sourcing Standards

All articles cite primary sources including:

  • Official board meeting agendas and minutes
  • Publicly available district documents
  • Direct observation of public board meetings
  • Official district communications

We link to sources whenever possible and note when information comes from our direct attendance at meetings.

Accuracy & Corrections

We strive for accuracy in all reporting. If we make an error:

  • Corrections are made promptly and noted clearly in the article
  • Significant corrections are announced via newsletter
  • We welcome feedback at info@orangeunited.org

Fairness & Balance

Our coverage focuses on education policy, not politics. When reporting on board member actions:

  • We report votes and positions factually
  • We provide context for decisions
  • We explain multiple perspectives when relevant
  • We focus on educational impact, not political implications

Candidate & Election Coverage

During election periods, we may provide:

  • Nonpartisan voter guides with education policy positions
  • Equal opportunity for all candidates to share their views
  • Information about election dates and voting processes
  • Educational background on ballot measures affecting schools

We do not endorse candidates or make recommendations on how to vote.

Conflicts of Interest

Orange United staff and contributors disclose any potential conflicts of interest related to our coverage, including:

  • Employment by the school district
  • Family relationships with district employees or board members
  • Financial relationships with vendors or contractors
